It's not free in the idea of freedom software.  But it's free in terms of not costing a dime.  And, in my opinion, it outshines the &lt;a href="http://www.mozilla.org"&gt;happy little fox&lt;/a&gt;.  This is one of those rare cases where a closed business actually does better than an open one.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To be clear, it's super fast, it has some very useful features for we power users, and its available on a wide range of platforms, including &lt;a href="http://opera.com/products/desktop/index.dml?platform=linux"&gt;most linux distributions&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I still love Firefox.  It remains my browser of choice when using any modern PC, especially due to its wonderful extensions (like the del.icio.us extension, just wonderful). But on all of the slow computers I use the majority of the time, Opera is taking over.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;Note: I recognize the irony of my first software recommendation not being open-source.
